The bedrooms at Sutherland House Hotel are unlike any other in Southwold. The house dates from 1450, and many of the original features are still visible, with pargetted ceilings (c 1660), beams, original foot wide elm floorboards (c1450), fireplaces, and a medieval window. All of this historic fabric contrasts with the contemporary furnishings, zoffany fabrics and design classics, such as Le Corbuisier Chaise Longues and Eileen Grey coffee tables.
Here you can sleep under the same ceiling as a past King of England, luxuriate in a six feet long double ended slipper bath set on a plinth in the middle of a beamed, floorboarded room or escape to the suite which occupies the top floor on the entire footprint of the old house. The Hotel is located on the high street of this delightful English seaside town, this means that during your entire stay you never need to get in your car again! There are many shops, boutiques and art galleries to visit. The harbour (where we get the majority of our fish), Southwold Pier and the seafront are all within easy walking distance.
Service is relaxed and informal, with a small family run team available to look after you. The quality of the food allied to the quality of the bedrooms makes it an ideal destination for a short break or mini holiday. We are proud to announce that we have received 5 Gold Stars from the AA in the Restaurant with Rooms category, this puts us in the top 10% of these properties in the country.
